This piece of jewellery is adorned with a skilful recreation of a hand-engraved figure of a horse, in honour of both the sign of the zodiac and the swift, long-limbed horses of ancient China. Fleet-footed, well-proportioned and seeming to fly like the wind, they were called ‘tianma’ – heavenly horses. The earliest references describe them as a symbol of positivity and promise.
